Low vision and visual impairment

One in five people will live with sight loss in their lifetime. We understand what this means, and whatever your personal experience of sight loss, we are here for you.

Stephen Abery is a highly trained professional who holds the Professional Higher Certificate in Low Vision from the College of Optometrists. He contributed the chapter on low vision aids in the Oxford Desk Reference: Geriatric Medicine and has trained optometrists, opticians and orthoptists in this field of work.

Stephen has worked in the Low Vision Clinic at Royal Berkshire Hospital for 27 years and has a thorough experience helping people with dry and wet macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma, stroke and other conditions. We can help you understand your eye condition, answer your questions and give you practical advice to maximise your remaining vision.  We can advise you about glasses, low vision aids, magnifiers and helpful technology. We can also put you in touch with local services for people with visual impairment.

We can give you practical, straightforward advice and support to help you maintain your independence and face the future with confidence.
