Expert Witness

Stephen Abery has worked as a full-time optometrist in “high street” community practice since 1985 and has developed a thorough practical knowledge of optometry by seeing a full range of patients including children, the elderly and domiciliary.  He tests sight, fits contact lenses and dispenses spectacles.

In addition to his regular clinical practice, Stephen has been involved in teaching and training, at a UK university, in the developing world and in continuing professional development. Chairing Berkshire Local Optical Committee for 15 years, has given him a wide understanding of referral and the relationship of optometry with wider health services.  He is experienced in providing high quality and timely medico-legal work both as a performance assessor for the General Optical Council and as an expert witness.

Stephen is an experienced expert witness in primary care optometry. He can act on behalf of solicitors for prosecution or defence and is available to take instruction from other parties where required.
